Sorry this took so long, unexpected weekends working and then work travel kept me from finishing this in a timely fashion! Bad blogger, bad!
On 7/23 I modeled for the second year in a row for the UN(scene) fashion show which was held at the Riot Room; representing, of course, Retro Vixen, purveyor of pinup fashion and retro style. Several other girls returned from last year, along with lots of newcomers. The fashions were split between RV’s fabulous brands she’s brought to Missouri, and local designer, Monkey Wrench Clothing. MWC featured steampunk inspired corsets, bustles, and frocks that were as much fantasy as they were functionality.
I also just want to point out that the models wore retro fashion from Lucky 13, Jansen Swimwear, Steady Clothing, Star Struck Clothing, with bags from Lux de Ville and most shoes from Bordello and Pin Up Couture — ALL of which can be found at Retro Vixen.
The ravishing Ruby Von Blush and Shari Nooteboom provided amazing hairstyling services, and Shari’s friend Joanna provided beautification. I had already done my makeup because I was trying to help out Melissa too, which ended up being a good thing because I ended up applying false lashes to two lash virgins, and I also steamed outfits to prepare them for the runway.
This year was even more fun than last year. Shari, Ruby and Joanna did an amazing job, and all the girls really rallied together despite the heat. Friendships were forged, and everyone had a great time. I finally got to meet Katty De Lux in person, which was fabulous, and the lovely Katy got to model for the first time — something that, in her words, she “never thought we’d be doing together” when we met. Funny how life works, eh?
Did I mention the runway was outside? Or that it was above 90 degrees at 9 p.m.? No? Yeah, that happened.
My lovely and patient husband is responsible for all these shots. Let’s start with getting pretty at Retro Vixen.
Now, a peek at us waiting in the wings, all dolled up…
Ok, ok, time for the runway. It’s the pinup version of blue steel. Get ready. Ok…here we go. It happened so fast we actually didn’t get everyone but here’s what I’ve got.
And just like that, it was over.
I won’t lie, I am not as comfortable as I’d like to be on the runway, but this was a wonderful group of girls to hang out with! All the designers and models did an amazing job; it’s just amazing to me that Kansas City really does have a fashion scene for everyone. I don’t think Melissa will have to ask me twice to be part of it in 2012!
