So, as many of you probably read about on Facebook, I recently got to have my picture taken by Roy Varga, and Sarah, of Dynamite Dames Photography. It was my birthday present to myself, and I was very excited for the opportunity to work with two photographers who have done such great work. They’ve both had work in Retro Lovely (among other places), the magazine I’ve been in thanks to Ms. Nikki of Vixen Pinup Photography. Plus…it meant I got to go home to Oklahoma and hang out with my parents. Ain’t nothing wrong with that. My dear, supportive father accompanied me, and documented the experience.
I got to choose who I wanted to shoot me with what sets, which was cool. After checking out the options, my roller-set was brushed out by the lovely Lynne of Vintage Flair, and then Nicky (above) started my makeup. She and I instantly bonded over both loving the Bare Escentuals Auburn brow powder. Good thing I’d brought mine because she’d forgotten to bring it. She deftly glued two (!!!) sets of lashes to my lids, and used about 4 shades of blush to make me really glow. Nicky was once a Dior makeup artist, and it was very clear this girl had some skills. I looooooved my look. She did several things that I had learned when I was working for a makeup artist, which made me confident that when I looked in the mirror I was going to like what I saw.
So I got to shoot with Roy first, and I chose one indoor set and the ’59 Cadillac. I was nervous, as I usually am, but Roy was really nice, and great at directing me as needed, as well as changing up his angles several times for different poses. He really gave me a lot to choose from.

On the indoor set, getting ready to pose. Amazing longline bra and Rago girdle, plus fully-fashioned stockings! Trés magnifique!
Then, outside to the ’59 Cadillac. I’ve been posing with cars a lot lately but I was excited about this beautiful boat! The wind made things a bit tricky but I think we got some pretty shots out of it.
After shooting with Roy, I had a little break for wardrobe change, hairstyle change (the rolls you saw above) and makeup touch up (it was still very humid in Oklahoma). Then Sarah and I chatted while she shot me posing on the sofa as you can see above. She was so sweet, funny and easy to talk to. Not to mention she obviously has a great eye for framing an image. In addition to this set, I changed into a light green vintage slip and nude stockings with “Polly” inspired heels from Retro Vixen to pose in a vintage salon chair. So cute and fun!
All in all, it was great to shoot with both these photographers and I am so glad I had the opportunity. Not to mention meeting the other girls who were hanging out getting their pictures taken too. It was a fun afternoon and I hope I have the opportunity to work with everyone again someday! Thanks to my mom for helping me roller set my hair, and thanks to my dad for playing chauffeur and documentarian. It was the best birthday weekend this pinup could imagine!
I’ve got several more posts in the works this week, stay tuned!
xoxo
