Yes, it’s the second day of New York Fashion Week, but you know Kansas City has Fashion Week events too?

If you’re heart goes pitter pat at the thought of runways and new clothes, join me at Kansas City Fashion Week‘s Spring events are happening February 23 – 26, 2012. The events are scheduled at several Kansas City venues including Harrah’s North Kansas City Casino and One 8 Oak Event space. This Spring, 22 designers are participating, including a student showcase on Sunday.

KCFW begins Thursday evening with Faction magazine’s 2 year anniversary and kick off party, and closes Saturday night after the Designer Showcase with a party at Lucky Strike Lanes in the Power & Light District. The Student Showcase and Competition happens Sunday afternoon. If you’re interested in attending any of the KCFW events, check their site for ticket information, and follow them on Facebook and Twitter!

I’ll have runway photos and my report from Friday night’s Red Carpet Gala, as well as runway photos and report from Saturday’s Designer Showcase. Hello you fabulous things you! I’ve got Valentine’s Day on my mind this week (clearly), but there’s other stuff happening too! This week I have a few announcements I’ll start off with, plus links!

• I highly suggest you attend After Darque Burlesque, in Lawrence on Friday, February 17, at the Jazzhaus. It will most definitely be a fun time.
• I will be covering Kansas City Spring Fashion Week, here on the blog, but you can go too! Look for a post soon about how.
• Not sure I have ever mentioned them, but I love Everyday Minerals products, and they have some great deals going on this week!
• Don’t you dare try and tell me that the world doesn’t need a vintage “Hey Girl” Ryan Gosling Tumblr. Now go have a laugh.
• The Manhattan Vintage Show was last weekend — the attendees were pretty stylish.
• A slide show of trends for Spring — even if they are out of your budget, I think they are great inspiration!
• 1960′s makeup inspiration from the artistic director of Hourglass Cosmetics for your Valentine’s Day date.

Umm, yeah…I’m thinking this might be needed for when warm weather returns.

• I think I will try making this vegan, cacao goodness for Valentine’s Day.
• New York Fashion Week begins today!

I’m a closeted romantic. Don’t tell anyone, because I’ve worked very hard to cultivate my badass persona (sarcasm alert). However, I’ve always liked Valentine’s Day, even though I was the girl who never got a Valentine’s Secret Admirer rose in high school (yeah, that was a thing) — I was obsessed with Victorian era Valentines, love letters between famous people, literary love stories, I could go on. Nowadays, I don’t really like going out for Valentine’s Day, but I relish an excuse to celebrate love.

Even if your beau does mind-blowingly romantic things for you, I think it’s important to do something special for yourself too. You probably have a laundry list of indulgences you’ve been putting off, but why? You’re special, right?

The love yourself list:

• Watch something you love on Netflix.
• Sink into a hot bath with a fragrant bath oil or bath salts. Bonus points if you also take a book with you.
• Enjoy your favorite beer/wine/liquor while listening to your favorite music.
• Buy a letterpress card with a positive sentiment, frame it and hang by your vanity. Bask in how awesome you are.
• Get a manicure. Or give yourself one at home!
• Make a delicious meal. Or if you hate to cook, get take out from your favorite restaurant.
• Buy yourself lingerie from here, or here, or here.
• Pick out a new toy. (nsfw link!)
• Buy a fancy lipstick.
• Concoct this DIY brightening face mask and walk around the house naked in heels while the mask does its thing.

The most important thing is that you do something for yourself every now and again, even if it’s not on Valentine’s Day, commit to doing something for yourself! Is there anything that makes you feel like a million bucks that I didn’t list? Leave me a comment!

Extra credit — go to Birdies this Thursday from 5–9 p.m. Amanda Williams will be expertly applying temporary lashes so you can bat those pretty peepers all weekend and through Valentine’s Day! It’s $20, and will be a super fun night! While you’re there, maybe pick up a little something satiny or lacy for yourself too.

Speaking of husbands, after much trying on and much debate, mine bought and gifted the pair below to me as an early Valentine’s Day present. They were our favorite of the long, wearable ones, but we’re also going to look for vintage glove forms to display them, because they are really too good to put away in a drawer.

Greene’s gloves are vintage leather and fabric gloves, in a variety of colors and themes.
It was way too much fun trying them all on!

As you can see, I did quite a bit of trying. I was rather fond of these two characters.

They are so intricate, and each one has its own personality so to speak.
As the viewer, you kind of make assumptions about the girl who would wear them.

Ok, I am a goofball, but isn’t she adorable? Her vintage slip was covered in patches she’s painted like her gloves. It was gorgeous.

I’m so excited to have seen her work, and my husband is a sweetie for getting me a pair. Birdies is going to have some of them for awhile, though several things sold last night, so definitely get over there this weekend if possible!

Typical work day, but combining lace, leopard and houndstooth feels anything but typical! Tee hee!

Hello Lovely! Actually, the heat is off, because this week has been in the 60′s! It’s been interesting and productive week, as well. Lots of projects beginning, it’s very exciting. Plus, I got my taxes out of the way, which always makes this girl happy. Anyway. Next week I have several very cool announcements, so stay tuned for that. Here are a few links to entertain you…

My mom texted me the other day to ask if I’d seen how gorgeous the Dior collection for Spring is. I’d been so obsessed with Prada (note the Sleigh Bells song!) I hadn’t even paid attention! Clearly, I need more skirt/jacket combos and cloche hats in my life!
