September 8th was Fashion’s Night Out, a day for fashionistas to hit the streets in their stilettos and celebrate fashion, style and shopping.
Katy and I decided to hit the Plaza, which worked out because she already had a happy hour planned down there for that evening. I met up with her after getting a trim with my favorite stylist/psychotherapist Sha, and we decided to first hit up the new Michael Kors boutique. The space features mirrored walls and pony hair benches give the place that Midwestern chic feel. The ladies working the store were so nice, and Katy tried on some shoes, while I mainly lusted over the bags. I think Michael Kors is really creative but truly understands that women want quality for their money, not just something that looks cool. The thing about MK that I can’t get over though, it the big silver MK logo on everything. I believe that if one really has style, one doesn’t advertise with logos all over everything. That said, there IS a bag I wouldn’t mind getting for my birthday…

After we left MK we made our way down to Hall’s, which was hoppin’. We wandered past the DJ and live models on the ground level, and took the escalator up to shoes, and women’s. Kate Spade has some amazing shoes for Fall, and I fell in love with an impossibly tiny rubbery plastic Furla bag. Over in women’s clothes, Katy and I both agreed that Rachel Zoe, while sometimes intense on her reality show, sure as hell knows clothes. Seriously, her collection was the most fun and definitely skews younger than most of what we saw. Katy fell in love with a coat which isn’t pictured on the Hall’s site, so I actually found it elsewhere (go look!). I love winter white, and texture is huge for Fall. Who doesn’t love the thought of wrapping themselves in something luxuriously textured? The thing you can’t see in the picture is that the fabric has delicate silver threads running through it giving it just that much more dimension.

Gucci platform Mary Jane’s on one of the live models at Hall’s. She said they were the most comfortable of the shoes she’d worn that night!
We were going to stop in Betsey Johnson but there wasn’t a lot of room in there, so we skipped it and headed to bebe, where we chatted up one of our favorite KC burlesque beauties who also happens to hold down the fashion fort there. Bebe has tons of great pieces for Fall and Katy picked up an amazing cream bag with black patent trim. I’ll be going back for the lace pattern tights and of course the sexiest dresses around.
Fashion’s Night Out on the Plaza was great fun, and from what I have seen of the other coverage and tweets, other areas of the city had a great turn out too. I can easily see this becoming a yearly event that grows by the year. I can’t wait!
