Fall is the best time for vintage beauty in my opinion. A lot of traditional vintage looks don’t require a lot of makeup, but are generally more matte in texture, and thus better suited for cooler weather. So, put away your gloss and bronzer, and let’s talk ladylike lipstick and liner.

I keep things pretty simple for day-to-day. Below are the products I use to create a simple vintage look, that I wear to the office. It doesn’t sacrifice glamour for professionalism one bit.

A few notes on the makeup. I do not wear Everyday Minerals for photo shoots. It’s literally my everyday choice. I like it more than any other mineral makeup I have tried, because it’s very easy to use, has great color and formula selection and is inexpensive. The largest size mineral foundation is under $15, and lasts me at least 6 months. Yes, I use concealer if I have a (gasp) breakout or under eye circles from too many late nights at the ad agency with Don Draper.

You can always add more eye shadow than the simple neutral base I show here. I often use a darker neutral in the crease of my eye. The Aqua Black is called a shadow but I was introduced to using it as a liner. It doesn’t budge during the day which is great if you are prone to rubbing off the wings of your cat eyes like me. This particular product is sold exclusively at Sephora. I always curl my lashes, and use a Sephora curler. Diorshow Blackout Mascara is worth it. ‘Nuff said. I didn’t mention brows, because I think how you choose to groom them depends on the shape and type of hair you have. But please, do groom them, and avoid plucking or waxing them into oblivion! Seek professional help if necessary.

Lastly, I wear MAC’s “MAC Red” lipstick. I prefer it to Russian Red for it’s creme formula and brighter hue. Personal preference. I always use it with MAC’s Cherry lipliner.

Other things to keep in mind…

Even though you’re not out at the beach or lake, it doesn’t mean you can skip sunscreen. The sun affects your skin every day, regardless of the temperature outside. The best thing you can do to prevent aging is wear sunscreen!

As the temperature cools you may need to switch to a cream cleanser, and add a moisturizer in order to keep things smooth. You may consider using a separate eye cream as well, because that area is even more sensitive. I prefer Korres eye creams because you get twice what a lot of brands sell in a hygenic tube rather than a messy, dirty jar. I love the Evening Primrose one which treats dark circles.

A cheap wash cloth can be the best exfoliator out there for dry lips. Obviously avoid this if lips are actually cracked and instead smooth on Aquaphor until they heal.

That covers my basic Fall look and the changes I make to my beauty routine. Whether I am in meetings, tied to my desk on deadline, or getting on a plane to visit a client, I know I look pulled together, professional and pin-up perfect without looking garrish or overdone.
